Thanks for an amazing 2012 summer!

It has been an amazing summer for Green Bay Multisport.  The 2011 season started with just 20 members and in 2012 we are up over 80 members.  It was amazing to see the Green Bay Multisport jerseys multiply with each race we attended all summer long.  From the Green Bay Tri to Ironman the training sessions were a great outlet to meet other members and the support received by teammates was amazing.  Thank you to all members for making our second season a HUGE success!

Riding in Rememberance

Three of our members participated in the "Riding in Rememberance" ride on Saturday.  Ivy and Ann biked 79 miles while Scott traded in his spandex for leather and rode a motorcycle.

Ann's view of the day:

The ride went really, really good. Everyone liked the course, it was challenging, but so scenic, it didn't matter. The cause of course was great, we rode to honor as well as to raise funds for two local Veterans organizations. I am an Army veteran, served in Saudi during Desert Storm/Sheild. Ivy is prior military as well.  We plan on doing it again next year, everyone in attendance said they would absolutely do it again next year! Hopefully we can get an even bigger turn out year 2 :) The course was GREAT! but challenging, as it was pretty rolling/hilly, but very scenic. We had great rest stops/sag vehicle that rode to each rest stop with our stuff in it if we wanted, cold water/gatorage and fuel/food. Super great company, we ended up with the dozen riders we were shooting for I believe... next year, we hope to have at least 30 (secretly I'd love 40-50! :)

Scott's view of the day:

I didn't really know what I was in for in doing the Veterans Ride.  One does not have to be a veteran (I am not), but simply be a supporter of our veterans.  I made a small contribution to support the cause and I was in.  The ride was made up of over 500 motorcycles and then followed by an assortment of sports cars.  I fall into the later group.  We drove with police escort from Green Bay east to the lake and south to Mishicot.  The amazing part of this was all the people lining the route clapping and waving American flags.  Wow.   Whole families, Grandparents to little ones, waving flags in support of our military men and women, past and present, especially considering how hot and humid it was yesterday. It was just very cool to be a part of it.
While the dominate attire was black leather, on the surface I was a bit out of my element. There wasn't a stitch of spandex to be found, and Gadorade was replaced by Bud or Coke at the rest stop (T1) in Mishicot.  Superficial differences aside, what was universal was our appreciation for our military heroes and love of our country.  I expanded my circle of friends having met some really great people

What Scott called T2 on his "ride"

4th 5K's, Pewaukee Tri, Kelly Lake Tri

A warm July 4th full of 5K’s

Pete ran the America's Birthday Bash 5K in Green Bay on July 4th. He would say the competition was not elitle caliber, but hardware is hardware.   He placed 2nd overall with a 19:11 time and 1st in the 30-39 age group.  A "youngin" in the 20-29 age group got him by 16 seconds. :(

Scott ran Firecracker 5K and placed 4th in his age group with an impressive time.  He placed top 7% overall and had a great race.  You continue to impress and be an inspiration Scott!

Lee, Tricia, Meghan, Brian B and Mike P raced the Hairpin 5K in Fish Creek.  It was a hot day on a hilly course but all survived.  Tricia was proud to wear a race bib just 3.5 weeks from her bike accident, Meghan was just happy to be running at 33 week pregnant, Brian B placed 3rd overall and 1st in his age group, Lee kept the kids happy pushing them in the stroller and Mike beat the heat finishing with an excellent time.

Pewaukee Triathlon a first for Aaron

Aaron completed in his very first triathlon, he had a really good time in the Pewaukee area.  It was a nice area and the scenery and hills made for an interesting and slightly challenging course...at least for him.  Overall, it was a lot of fun for him and for his family.  Aaron can't wait for the Door County Sprint!!!

Kelly Lake Triathlon interesting turn of events!

Ted competed in the Kelly Lake triathlon on July 7th.  It was an interesting turn of events as Ted wondered why there was so much police presence and he was not allowed in transition after his race.  Turns out a man stole a tri bike rode it to a nearby cottage and stole a car which in turn lead to a high speed chase to Green Bay.  Who would have thought that a criminal would have such appreciation for the speed of a good triathlon bike?  Anyway… congrats Ted on another solid race as you prepare for your 70.3 on the east coast!

Tri Camp, Trail Run, Manitowoc Marathon, Minocqua Open Water Swim

DC tri camp

What an eventful weekend for GBMS.  The first of the DC tri camps was a huge success with over 60 people showing up to run, bike and swim the course!  We are looking forward to another great weekend on the 7th of July.

Minocqua Open Water Swim

Race report by Dan:

I tried to represent GBMS well and as you can see myself and Jenny,my support team, were sporting our GBMS shirts.  The Race was Sat June 23rd at 9am. I placed 2nd in the 40-49 age group and 8th overall. About 80 people participated. I even managed to fit in a hill run after the race- I didn't want to skip my door county training!! I got back in time to see the last swimmer named Ryan Stewart finish. He was given an award called the Olivia Clark memorial award- given to the swimmer who showed great spirit, sportsmanship and love of the outdoors.   Ryan suffers from MS but still was able to complete the swim. Truly an inspiration.  It was a well organized race and alot of fun. Hope more GBMS members will join me next year!

Eau Claire Trail Run

Tom competed in a trail run in Eau Claire this past weekend.  He placed 1st in his age group bringing home some hardware for Green Bay Multisport.  Tom had a heart attack just two months ago and has been doing an amazing job recovering!

Manitowoc Marathon

Three of our members competed in the Manitowoc Marathon this past weekend.  Ann Senn had a great time traveling the shores of Lake Michigan, Eric put down an amazing time and Stephanie competed in her very first full marathon.  Congrats to all!!
